Core Exercises for Osteoporosiscore

When you have osteoporosis, knowing how to activate your core muscle is very important.  Properly activating your core is a critical element to working out safely and protecting your spine on a daily basis.

The “core” refers to a muscle called transverse abdominis.  When activated, this muscle stabilizes the spine which helps protect it from injury.

This core muscle also supports some of the vertical loading that occurs throughout the spine.  With decreased vertical loading , the spine is better protected from compression fractures.

Decreasing compression fracture risk is very important when you have osteoporosis which is why core strengthening exercises with osteoporosis are important!

In addition, knowing how to activate your core will help you have better posture!

Below I will demonstrate and explain how to activate this amazing muscle.  All it takes is a little bit of practice!

How to Activate Your Core

Once you learn how to activate your core while lying flat, sitting and standing, all it takes is a little time and effort to make core activation second nature during all activities and movements.

It will take mental effort at first to make core activation a habit but if you stick with it you will find that soon enough you are tightening your core without having to think about it!

Once you can activate your core properly, activate it while exercising and during daily activities to further strengthen your core safely with osteoporosis! You are on your way to better posture, a healthier spine and decreased spinal fracture risk!
