Physical Therapist/Personal Trainer for Osteoporosis
When you are looking for a fitness professional to guide you on building bone exercise, it is important to find a physical therapist or personal trainer who is knowledgeable about osteoporosis.
When you have osteoporosis, certain movements should be avoided.
Avoiding these movements with daily activities and with exercise, helps keep your spine safe.
This is why it is important to talk with a physical therapist or personal trainer before beginning to exercise with osteoporosis.
Physical therapists are the exercise experts when it comes to treating different diagnoses with exercise.
We learn the do’s and don’ts when it comes to many diagnoses including osteoporosis when we are in grad school.
Personal trainers do not have this education unless they have taken a specific certification/education class so be sure to ask!
REGARDLESS . . .
It is imperative that you make sure the physical therapist or personal trainer that you choose to guide you is KNOWLEDGEABLE about osteoporosis. Ask them what your routine will entail and what you should avoid. You should avoid spinal flexion and spinal rotation.
You should have balance training, stretching, posture training, daily activity modification, core strengthening, weight bearing cardio, and most important of all STRENGTH resistance/weight training.
